Din Åsna is an interactive sculpture that combines an easel-like wooden frame and dyed strips of raw fabric, used to dress and decorate the frame. The frame can be transformed into a beach chair or placed on its side to serve as a base for building a hut with the strips. By attracting physical participation, those who interact become the artist, viewer, and artwork—all at once.

With the resilience of a donkey, the frame redirects labor to pleasure. It promotes play by continuously moving on to the next. Play represents activities we enjoy and choose freely. However, when play transforms into a duty, demanding discipline and resembling labor, we would rather do something else. Put differently, anything we “rather not do” feels like work.

Din Åsna entertains both adults and children. Because the lightweight sculpture is on the floor, it is easily accessible for children. For adults, there is an opportunity to let go, play, and reconnect with other children or their own inner child.
