Have A Summer

DJ costume-performance
Spray paint, acrylic paint, plastics, safety pins, work clothes and various fabrics, including dyed raw fabric from Din Åsna
2025

The inspiration for this wearable sculptural costume was an anonymous bird singing exceptionally beautifully in my neighborhood, and I started thinking about how the perception of the bird would change if the bird was visible.

Finn Öhlund’s exhibition, “Främlingsvänlighet”, takes place in Farsta Galleri at the peak of midsummer. The title is a playful version of främlingsfientlighet, Swedish for xenofobia.
As a guest appearance, I was DJing my own and others’ music, and selling handmade jean patches featuring a robot girl, abstracts, nuclear plants, and texts.

My costume initially stood in the corner of the exhibition space, among Öhlund’s vibrant paintings. It blended upcycled textiles, plastics, with my early work clothes from my work as a facilities technician. The costumes’ transparent reflective plastics interacted with Öhlund’s paintings like shapeshifting, distorted mirrors.

During the 4 week exhibition I made alterations to the costume, and returning visitors experienced transformations. On the last day of the exhibition, I brought the costume midspace, rearranging, twisting, and pulling its presence into the exhibition.
